Hi, stumbled across this site and can't believe I have found a connection. Edward is the brother of my great grandfather, John Brindley Price. I have limited knowledge of Edward but I do know where he was born and I have found him in the 1901 census with his daughter Phoebe Ann. If anyone is interested in finding out what I know please contact me. Their father is Thomas Brindley Price but I have few details about his parents as finding Thomas' birth is proving difficult. My main aim was to find out where the Brindley name came from. If you can help me, again please contact me. Many thanks.

Great! I too got the info from the 1901 census but hadn't found much detail about Edward other than that he was born in Belbroughton. My father knew that to be true and we had a visit there before he died but it would be good to know about Edward's siblings and their circumstances. I'd love to hear more about what you have found. And it's interesting your great grandfather is using the Brindley name because Edward dropped it at some point. The family story was that there had been some falling out but my father didn't know quite what had happened only that there were parts of the family that they didn't associate with. I'll see what more detail I can dig out and get back to you ...

I too visited Belbroughton a couple of years ago. A lovely place. I was able to locate what could have been the Price's home using the 1871 census and information obtained from the local post office there. It was well worth the visit.
The name Brindley has remained with our side of the family. All my great grandfather's, John Price, children had the name passed down to them. Unfortunately due to death's etc. only one of his daughter's passed the name on and that was to her eldest son, William Brindley Smith, my father. My dad died last year. He never passed the name on to me or my siblings so it stopped there. However I had a daughter the month after his death and Brindley has been resurrected in her.
Right, what I know about Edward. His father was Thomas Brindley Price, a scythesmith, and his mother was Phoebe Price (nee Careless). He was christened in Belbroughton on 11 Aug 1872. In 1881 he lived with his mother and siblings in Sheffield, my home town and bazaarly on the same road I was born! His father and one of his brother's, Henry, were working in Oldbury. He had a lot of siblings, none of which I have investigated yet, but their names were: Phoebe Ann, Prudence, Henry, Thomas, John, (then comes Edward), Eleanor, William, Charles, Edith and Annie. By 1891 the family had reunited and were back in Oldbury. Edward's occupation at that time was a scythe striker, the same as my great grandfathers. Edward married in 1894 and the rest you know. The only other bit of info. I have is that he was the informant on his father's death in 1896 and his address was stated to be Lockside, Tat Bank, Oldbury.
John Price, my great grandfather, settled in Sheffield. He married and had a number of children, unfortunately a lot died. His eldest sons died in the First World War which led him to throw himself off a railway bridge, he died of his injuries a few days later, aged 47. His wife was left to handle the large family and encountered a number of further deaths of her children and grand children. How that woman survived I do not know!
Well I think that's all I have to offer at the minute. Any questions, ask away and if you find anything out I don't seem to know, please leave me a message.
Oh by the way, I figured out our relationship, according to me, we are third cousins! Our parents having been second cousins. It makes you feel a bit less of a stranger.

Thanks SO much for the fill-in. This is great and has confirmed some of the connections to names I have long suspected were linked. My father never knew what had drawn his grandparents to Oldbury but now it makes sense given the work connection.

Let's stay in touch "cousin" and thanks again.
